When is registration?
Registration is available online any time here and will be open until December 1.

How much does registration cost and what does it include?
Registration cost $100 for the 2020 – 2021 season. Your registration fee helps cover the cost of facilities and insurance for the club. This covers the cost of all practices for your wrestler. As part of registration your wrestler will also receive a Midwest Wrestling T-Shirt and an AAU wrestling card. The AAU card is required to practice and will be required for some tournaments including the District, Regional, and State tournament at the end of the year.

How old does my child need to be to start wrestling?
Four years old is a typical starting age. Sioux Falls Midwest Wrestling is for ages 4 to 6th grade. With wrestling you determine your level of participation so you can adjust the number of practices and tournaments to fit the desire and abilities of your wrestler.

I missed registration can I still join?
You can start wrestling at any time during the season. Just contact us at sfmidwestwrestling@hotmail.com to join if you missed registration.

How long does the season last?
Practices for the season start the first week of December and continue into March. Tournaments usually start towards the middle of December. During that time you can attend as many or few practices or tournaments as are right for your wrestler. We have wrestlers who go to multiple tournaments every weekend and some that only go to a few all year.

What equipment does my wrestler need for the season?
Wrestling Shoes, Singlets, and head gear are recommended for your wrestler. The first thing you should get are wrestling shoes. Your wrestler won’t need a singlet until they start going to tournaments.

Does my wrestler need a singlet? Am I required to buy one from Midwest?
You will want to get a singlet for your wrestler if they decide to participate in tournaments. For practice shorts and a T-Shirt or a Singlet are appropriate attire. Midwest has singlets for sale for your wrestler, however you can wear any singlet you wish. We encourage the use of Midwest singlets as they help us identify your wrestler at tournaments.

Does my wrestler need headgear?
AAU wrestling does not require headgear to be worn. However, some tournaments may require headgear to participate. We encourage all wrestlers to wear head gear as a matter of safety.

Does my wrestler need wrestling shoes?
Wrestling shoes or clean non-street worn tennis shoes are required. For practices socks will work if proper shoes are not available. Wrestling shoes are highly recommended.

How involved do I need to be as a parent / guardian?
Wrestling is a heavy parent / guardian participation sport. Midwest supplies coaches to lead the practices and teach the wrestlers but parents will need to be involved with helping coach their wrestler. If you are just learning about the sport of wrestling please let the coaches and board members know that you need help. We will do our best to help as many wrestlers as possible at tournaments. You getting involved and learning about the sport will be the best thing for your wrestler in the long run. The coaches and the board members will help teach and coach both you and your wrestler as much as possible.

When are tournaments? Do I need to go to them?
Tournament times and locations will vary and will be located at schools in the surrounding area. Wrestling is a participate as much as you like sport. While we practice warm-up and support each other as a team, each wrestler can go to as many or as few tournaments as they wish. Most weekends there will be multiple options for tournaments in the area. Midwest will notify you of some of the better options beforehand as we learn about them.

When are practices?
We will usually have 4 practices a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays. All practices are from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm. Wrestlers under the age of 7 are encouraged to go to our Beginner sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. Ages 7 and up should attend Wednesday and Friday. Any wrestler who is part of Midwest can choose to go to as many or few practices as they wish.

What do I need for practice?
To participate in practice your wrestler needs to be wearing acceptable clothing and footwear. For clothes singlets, t-shirts, shorts, or athletic pants are acceptable. For footwear wrestling shoes or socks will work. Street shoes or bare feet are not acceptable for practices or tournaments.

Where are practices held?
We finally have our own space at 3408 S. Center Ave! All practices will be held there. The practice schedule will be posted on the website and changes to the schedule will be communicated via email.
